If you’re serious about losing the weight avoid these 5 common dieting myths. A lot of people think these things can help them lose weight but they actually sabotage your efforts.

Myth #1 Losing The Weight By Starvation
You’ve probably been told that all you have to do to lose weight is eat less and exercise more. Ah, if only life was that simple!

Of course what you eat and how much you exercise affects your weight but there’s more to it than that. You need to know how you can make the most of your body’s natural calorie burning abilities by tuning up your metabolism.

Too many times when you try to eat less you cut your calories way to low and you become subject to “starvation mode.Through our genetics we are coded to save ourselves from starvation. Long term use of “starvation” diets cause you body to fight back by sending out hunger signals which will lead to overeating and weight gain!Your calorie intake should be, on average, equal to ten times your weight in pounds.

Myth #2 It Doesn’t Matter Where The Calories Come From
All calories are definitely not the same. We have to take in calories for energy. We consume calories for fuel but the way they are metabolized affects our weight. You can actually stop your weight loss if you cut your calories too low!

Those foods that release sugar into your bloodstream quickly will tend to make you gain weight. You’ll have an easier time losing weight when you choose foods that release sugar into the bloodstream more slowly. Whole, unprocessed foods are your best choice to get the calories you need in the healthiest form.

By making smart choices you will usually be amazed at how much food you can eat and still lose the weight!

Myth #3 Don’t Eat Fat
How do we explain the fact that we’ve grown fatter over the last 30 years even though we’ve consumed far less fat! According to the medical and scientific community we are now in the midst of a full blown obesity epidemic!

There’s more to the fat connection than just cutting it out of your diet. It’s important that we know how to choose the right kind of fat.   The “good fats” like omega-3 fats and monounsaturated fats can actually aid you in losing the weight. The “bad” fats that make you gain weight are things like vegetable oil and trans fats.

Myth #4  Losing The Weight by Avoiding Carbs
We absolutely need some carbs to survive! They are critical to our long term health. You need to look for those healthy carbs that are high in fiber, which are typically the ones that are unprocessed. You’ll get greater weight loss results if you concentrate on the glycemic “load” rather than the glycemic “index” of your food choices. What it all boils down to is fiber.

Myth #5 You Can Lose Weight By Skipping Meals
Skipping breakfast is one of the biggest mistakes you can make when you’re trying to lose weight. You need breakfast to get your metabolism moving after “fasting” time (sleep) is over. Skipping breakfast typically leads to overeating later in the day, especially late at night.

Start with a good breakfast then eat small meals throughout the day and stop eating 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.

Avoid these dieting myths if you want to succeed in losing the weight. Following a sensible, healthy eating plan made up of as many whole, unprocessed and high fiber foods as possible will help you reach your weight loss goals.
